FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

  • Are your bagels NY Bagels?
Oh Mie Stelle! uses a traditional water-boiled method to produce our bagels. This is what many say makes a "real" bagel. The recipe for Oh Mie Stelle! bagels was developed using several NY-style bagel recipes as guides, however, it is not an exact replica of any one recipe. We also hand roll our bagels, as opposed to machine rolled, and we do not "punch" the hole in the bagel.
  • Do you get your water from New York?
No. Although many people believe NY water makes a great bagel, we believe a great bagel starts with love and then requires a lot of patience! NY bagels are not all created equal. If water was the secret ingredient, then wouldn't every bagel in New York taste similarly, and equally good? Rest-assured, they do not! As in most baked products, it is the amount of love you give your dough that supports the outcome of a quality bagel. We love our dough from start to finish, and we also give the dough the time it needs to develop its full flavor potential!
  • Do you use any preservatives or additives?
No. There are no preservatives or additives in our bagels to help them last longer or rise faster. This includes vital wheat gluten. We respect our gluten-free customers and offer gluten-friendly products for their specific needs, but the lack of vital wheat gluten in our products may allow many of our gluten-free customers who aren’t suffering from a serious illness, such as celiac disease, or allergies to enjoy our products, despite our use of bread flour. Regardless of whether you suffer from any reactions to gluten products, freshly made bread with the basic ingredients of flour, water, salt, yeast, and time, is far healthier than anything mass-produced, and far less processed. Eating at our bakery is like eating something your grandparents or parents made in their own kitchens!
  • How long will your bagels last?
Oh Mie Stelle! bagels will last for a couple days on the counter, sealed and placed in the refrigerator for a week, and sealed in the freezer for months.
  • What's the best way to reheat bagels?
We have found that placing an uncut, room-temperature bagel in a cold oven and preheating the oven to 350 degrees will result in a bagel that tastes freshly made, right out of the oven. Cold bagels from the refrigerator may take a few more minutes in the oven, and a frozen bagel should be defrosted on the counter or left in the oven for about 10 minutes past the preheated stage to get heated through. Toaster ovens also work great. Toasters should be used with caution as many of our bagels have toppings or fillings that may melt in a toaster, potentially causing a fire or rendering the toaster inoperable, especially filled bagels.
  • Can I recommend a new product for inclusion in the bakery?
Absolutely! Our motto is "A taste of home, from where you call home." The intent is to show respect to all of the people of our community, and attempt to provide products almost as good or better than what they grew up with. Wherever you are from, we are happy to try new products to share with the community. At Oh Mie Stelle!, we value a sense of inclusion for everyone that comes through our doors. Drop us a note or come by and see us if you would like to suggest a new product. We will be happy to begin researching recipes to create new products to help our customers feel loved. If you have a recipe you would like to share we would love to try it!
